Topic

Investigation of electro-stimulating implants for bone regeneration and prevention of implant-associated bacterial infection using DC.
Parameter analysis and surface coatings optimization, in-vitro investigation.

Description

The scientific objective of the project is to analyze correlated parameters of DC electro-stimulating implants and their respective impact on bone regeneration and influence on biofilm formation at the implant surface in order to optimize stimulating parameters and implant surface coatings.

The parameters for DC stimulation will be optimized in a finite element analysis (FEA). Numerical simulations are to be supported and validated by experimental measurements for this task.

Approach

  • Modify of an in-vitro system for electric stimulation using DC
  • Simulating the electric field on a test chamber with different parameters
  • Simulating the electric field and experimental validation using an in-vitro system
  • Verification of electric stimulation effects on bone regeneration and influence on biofilm formation
